BMW's project i is really something special. That's because, it is the project that spearheaded the creation of two innovative new BMW models: the i3 EV and i8 plug-in hybrid.
What's more, BMW's project i marks the Bavarian automaker's entry into the world of alternative powertrains and mobile sustainability: the very premise of the project. It also is astonishing in that it takes the quintessential style and grace associated with the BMW brand and transforms it a new, exciting and incredibly eco-friendly way to create two models unlike any others on the market.
The only downside to Project i?
The fact that it had the potential for lukewarm reception from BMW-purists and traditional-auto drivers alike.
However, that doesn't seem at all to be a problem. In fact, at the LA Auto Show, this year, BMW's global sales chief revealed that the BMW i8 was already sold out. And, while there isn't a specific number available (in units) regarding BMW i8 sales, the first few production-versions have been delivered to their customers.
So, what of the BMW i3?
When it comes to the i3 hatchback (which is a pure-electric and available with range-extending technology) there have already been 10,000 orders for it, as well.
The BMW i3 and i8 are due out in the U.S. by next summer. In the meantime, we at Ganley BMW would like to invite you to stop by and see the selection of new BMW models we currently have. If you're interested, please feel free to visit us in Middleburg Heights, OH, any time.
